Luis Diestre is a Full Professor of Strategy at IE Business School. He earned his PhD in Strategic Management from the University of Southern California in 2009, and his research centers on two areas: non-market strategy and R&D activity in the biopharmaceutical industry. His work has appeared in journals including the Academy of Management Journal, the Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Management Science, the Journal of Management Studies, and Research Policy. He was named to Poets&Quants' 2015 list of the world's best 40-under-40 business school professors, and has served on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal and the Strategic Management Journal.
He's also the founder and CEO of Translucent Datalab, a healthcare technology venture — spun out of a €1.4M ERC Starting Grant and a follow-on ERC Proof of Concept Grant — that studies the activity of illegal online pharmacies.
These simulations grew out of the classroom: a way to let students experience strategic management concepts as live decisions under pressure, rather than only reading about them.
